Sedation at BDF Dental

What is Twilight Sedation?

Twilight sedation is a technique used to reduce anxiety and discomfort during dental procedures. It involves administering anaesthesia through an intravenous (IV) line, which puts you in a sedative state. We find that most patients end up sleeping during their treatment and don’t remember anything after their procedure. Instead of seeing the dentist while nervous, Twilight sedation will allow you to see the dentist in a state of deep relaxation.

What are the advantages of Twilight Sedation?

Twilight sedation has several advantages over other types of anaesthesia or pain management techniques, including:

Reduced anxiety and discomfort – You will feel relaxed and calm during the procedure, without any pain or discomfort.

Faster recovery time – Compared to general anaesthesia, Twilight Sedation offers a faster recovery time, allowing you to return to your daily activities soon after the procedure.

Precise control – Our seditionist (Dr Ryan Liang) can easily adjust the level of sedation during the procedure, ensuring you fill comfortable throughout.

Who does the Twilight Sedation?

Our Seditionist is also our lead dentist, Dr Ryan Liang. Dr Liang is a highly skilled dentist with years of experience in conducting surgeries and dental procedures. He is also highly qualified in the administration of IV sedation, making him the best choice for your Twilight Sedation dental procedure. He has a very gentle, compassionate and understanding approach to patient care, which helps ease any fears or anxiety you might have about undergoing dental procedures.

What is Nitrous Oxide (Inhalation Sedation)?

Nitrous Oxide (Inhalation Sedation) is a technique used in dentistry to help patients relax and reduce their anxiety during dental procedures. It involves the administration of colourless and odorless gas called nitrous oxide (N2O), which is commonly referred to as “laughing/happy gas”.

What are the advantages of Nitrous Oxide (Inhalation Sedation)?

Nitrous oxide has both sedative and analgesic properties, which means it can help induce a state of relaxation and relieve pain. When inhaled it produces a euphoric and calming effect, hence the term “happy gas”. It is administered through a small mask that fits over your nose and is mixed with oxygen for safe and controlled delivery. Great news, this means that you’ll able to have happy gas without worrying about any IV’s or downtime after your appointment!

This type of sedation allows patients to remain conscious and responsive throughout the entire procedure. The gas takes effect quickly and wears off rapidly once the administration is stopped. This makes it a popular choice for dental visits as I provide a comfortable anxiety-free experience without the need for more profound sedation methods.
